Siren Nation presents:
Lady Sings the Blues - A Tribute to Billie Holiday
at the Alberta Rose Theatre. Saturday, April 26, 2025
The 18th Annual Billie Holiday Tribute Night is a celebration of Jazz Appreciation
Month, Billie Holiday’s birthday month, and her 110th Birthday.
Featured performers are Marcia Hocker, Laura Stilwell, Rita Marquez, Anandi,
Marilyn Keller, and Lenanne Sylvester Miller.
Returning for her 5th year as emcee and 2nd year as curator of Siren Nation’s
annual Billie Holiday Tribute Night is Marcia Hocker. Marcia is the recipient of
numerous awards, including the 2018 Jazz Hero Award for the City of Portland
from the nationally recognized Jazz Journalists Association.
This event brings together musicians of many genres to pay tribute to one of the
greatest jazz singers and songwriters of our time. Billie Holiday, also known as
“Lady Day,” was an American jazz singer and songwriter. Holiday was a hugely
formative influence on jazz and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by
jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo.
Above all, she was admired all over the world for her deeply personal and
intimate approach to singing.
