Sam Coomes, is a multiple-time guest on the program being in the ultra-amazing Portland music institution called Quasi (along with drummer extraordinaire Janet Weiss also of Sleater-Kinney and Wild Flag), but he has also been in Donner Party, Heatmiser, Pink Mountain and more. Now Sam has a newly released solo effort under his own name entitled, Bugger Me, and returns to the show to feature it live for us.
Sam's catalog of songs are keyboard-based expositories, confessionals, and manifestos, sometimes personal, occasionally political, at times anthemic, but always engaging. His unique style meshes a cadence and tone reminiscent of Lee Michaels, but with an attack that seems more like if Keith Emerson was a Stooges fan; a mighty whirl of dagger-hands and percussive chords. You would NOT want to be his organ !
Padded headphones recommended !!
