Tonight's edition of Talking Earth features local writers Kevin Sampsell and Chrys Tobey. Kevin Sampsell discusses his recent book of collage and poetry, I Made an Accident, while Chrys Tobey reads poems from her book a woman is a woman is a woman is a woman from 2017 as well as newer poems published in journals and magazines.
Kevin Sampsell is an editor (Portland Noir and other books), publisher (Future Tense Books), bookstore employee (Powell’s Books), collage artist, and author (the short story collection Creamy Bullets, the memoir, A Common Pornography and the novel, This Is Between Us). His book, I Made an Accident (Collages and Poems) was recently published by Clash Books in 2022. His stories and essays have appeared in publications and websites such as Southwest Review, Diagram, Salon, The Rumpus, McSweeney’s, Tin House, Paper Darts, Joyland, Hobart, Longreads, Best Sex Writing 2012, and Best American Essays 2013. He was on the Portland Slam Team three times in the 1990s, but that will not be discussed because host Patrick Bocarde, who has never won a slam, lost the audio for that part.
Chrys Tobey (she/her) is a poet and writer whose work has appeared, or is forthcoming, in The Sun, Ploughshares, Rattle, New Ohio Review, The Minnesota Review, The Cincinnati Review, and elsewhere. Her poetry has been nominated for the Pushcart, Best of the Net, and featured in Verse Daily. Her first book of poetry, A Woman is a Woman is a Woman is a Woman, was published in 2017 from Steel Toe Books. Chrys lives in Portland, Oregon, with her rockstar lady-love and imaginary goat.
Patrick Bocarde hosts.
