The Back-To-School-Episode
Have you ever felt “out-of-the-loop” in the classroom due to your disability? Have you ever struggled to understand the materials, complete the assignments, hear what the teacher is saying or clearly see the materials presented in class? You are not alone!
Students across the globe have been coming up with creative ways to accommodate ableist institutions and curriculum designs for decades, when it SHOULD be the other way around. At Portland Community College, instructors and administrators are embracing student differences and alternative learning styles. This episode of Let’s Talk! discusses what this looks like at PCC, and why this approach is important for students and teachers alike. Members of the PCC Let’s Talk! Collective share their experiences with disability in the classroom, and talk about how to disclose disabilities to your instructors and classmates to achieve equitable learning outcomes wherever you are.
