Our In Depth guest today is Lori Tobias, author of the new memoir Storm Beat: A Journalist Reports from the Oregon Coast, published by Oregon State University Press.

Lori has worked in journalism for over 25 years, including time at the Rocky Mountain News as a columnist and features writer, and as a staff writer for The Oregonian. Her novel – Wander – won the 2017 Nancy Pearl Book Award in literary fiction, and was a finalist in the Best New Fiction category of the 2017 International Book Awards.

Storm Beat is Lori’s first book of non-fiction, and chronicles her years covering the Oregon Coast, from 2004 to 2013. In the words of writer Lynn Schooler, Storm Beat “takes the reader on a rapid fire journey into the dark underbelly of the beautiful, fog-wreathed coast of Oregon, where horrors, heroes, and disasters form the mosaic of a reporter’s life. It’s a page turner and a great read.”

Lori will be doing a livestream event at Portland’s Annie Bloom’s Books on Thursday, January 14th at 7PM PT. She’ll be joined in conversation with Laura Stanfill, publisher at Forest Avenue Press and author of the recent zine Sad House: Parenting, Grief, and Creativity in the Coronavirus Crisis. You can find out more, and register for the event, on the Annie Bloom's website
