On this episode of The Gap, Tammy and Althea speak with Don Merrill, the founder of CNBSeen, a non-profit that aims to address over policing of marginalized groups by offering free taillight replacements. Broken tail lights are a common cause of vehicle stops by police, and CNBSeen wants to lower the amounts of stops, especially of BIPOC folks, by pairing public safety with social justice. We learn about how Merrill got started and how partnerships with neighborhoods and auto parts shops can bring the service to over policed areas around the city. One metric Merrill is looking at is the Stops Data Report from the Portland Police Bureau, which tracks vehicle and pedestrian stops by race and precinct each quarter.

Then, we ask our listeners, how do they measure their successes? We hear about engineering design strategy, parenting and more. Be kind to yourself!
