A new museum exhibition showcases comics journalists from around the world

The Art of the News is an exhibition of comics journalism hosted by the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art in Eugene and curated by University of Oregon Professor Katherine Kelp-Stebbins.  The show features the work of a wide range of international artists and writers, from Russia's Victoria Lomasko and Mexico's Gerardo Alba to Tracy Chahwan, Yazan Al-Saadi, and Omar Khouri from Lebanon.  Familiar names such as Ben Passmore, Marjane Satrapi, Sarah Glidden, and Andy Warner are also featured, along with Portland's own Joe Sacco.

In this special hour-long episode of Words & Pictures, Professor Kelp-Stebbins offers us a tour of the show along with a history of graphic reportage.  She's joined in the studio by Benjamin Saunders, founder and director of the Undergraduate Minor in Comics and Cartoon Studies at the University, and by Sarah Mirk, contributing editor at the graphic journalism website The Nib, as well as digital engagement producer for Reveal at the Center for Investigative Journalism.
