Onions air-drying, getting ready for storage
Tips for harvesting figs, pears, and apples, and how to cure and store onions.

Host Glen Andresen and guest Jim Gilbert present a live recording of The Dirtbag this month. (In August, Glen will be at the Scandinavian Festival in Junction City running his Swedish Pancake booth for the 43rd year--but this year is the last! Time for him to get a life...) But the show is packed full of information on, among other topics, when and how to harvest figs, pears, and apples. Plus, Jim talks about currants and gooseberries (but did he bring samples for us to taste? Nooo!). And, tips on how to cure your onions for maximum storage time.

As always, we'll have a new Plant of the Month (walnuts) and a new Garden Stumper (the winner gets a free sharpening of a hand tool from Cully Farm Store in Northeast Portland!). Plus, our Dirtbag Dictionary term  is "bolt/bolting."  And, of course, what's annoying Glen this month.

Don't forget, if you have a gardening question, and don't want to call in, you can always email us at thedirtbag@kboo.org -- we'll answer your question on the air during the next show. Furthermore, you can record a voice memo of your gardening question on your phone and email that to us. We will play it on the air next month and answer your question.

The Dirtbag... Listen. Laugh. Learn.
