In recent years it’s becoming more and more obvious that youth are the real leaders of the climate movement. And for good reason, because they are the ones that are going to live with the climate mess that previous generations have created. During the May Rumble on the River, a series of community forums bringing together expert voices to explain the risks of having 90% of Oregon’s fuel stored within city limits on Highway 30 on your way to Sauvie Island, the last panelist was a Cleveland High School senior, Ben Stevenson, who is a Youth Climate Justice Organizer with Sunrise Movement PDX. Ben wowed the room, and on this episode of Locus Focus we feature Ben, talking about how youth climate activists are leading the way in reshaping the climate movement to confront the roles of capitalism and colonialism in creating and exacerbating the climate crisis.
