On today's episode, we welcome Susana Millman, author of the photograph collection Alive with the Dead ~or~ A Fly on the Wall with a Camera. The book includes over 500 of Susana’s photographs following the Grateful Dead and friends from the mid 1980s, through Jerry Garcia’s death in 1995, and up to the current incarnation of the band -- Dead and Company. Along the way, we get to know the band members, crew, staff, family, fellow musicians, and fans through the photos. Whether you’re new to the band or a long-time Deadhead, Susana captures the people, the time, and the place so vividly and intimately, you, too, will feel like a fly on the wall.
Take it from those who were there and know the band well. David Gans, host of the Grateful Dead Hour, says Alive with the Dead “is a warm, intimate document of Susana’s membership in several overlapping tribes of smart, soulful, fun-loving people.” And Deadhead-in-Chief Bill Walton calls the book “a deluxe and celebratory package of joy, happiness, and the highs and lows of life with the Grateful Dead, on and off the stage.”
