Norm Diamond hosts this episode of the Old Mole, which includes the following segments:

Is Racism Un-Oregonian? That’s what a former governor claimed in addressing the murder of an Ethiopian immigrant by racist skinheads thirty-five years ago. Elinor Langer knew different. This week Norm Diamond talks with Elinor about her 2003 book, One Hundred Little Hitlers, The Death of a Black Man, the Trial of a White Racist, and the Rise of the Neo-Nazi Movement in America. They talk about how the legal system, in focusing on “outside agitators,” relieved Portlanders from having to come to terms with racism in our fair city, and whether the response to the murder made any difference at all in stemming racism now.

Abolition or Proliferation—What Will It Be? From November 27th to December 1st, the Second Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons was held at the United Nations in New York City.  After the sessions, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists announced that the proceedings provided a glimmer of hope in an otherwise dark nuclear landscape. Jan Haaken talks with Juliane Hauschulz about those glimmers of hope and the prospects for organizing around the abolition of nuclear weapons. Hauschulz is on the Executive Board of the German section of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) and a campaigner with the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW), where she is responsible for the project "To Survive is to Resist".
