FROM THE PRESS RELEASE:

WHAT THE CROW KNOWS

5 DECEMBER 2023 - 27 JANUARY 2024

Rick Bartow lived and worked in Newport, Oregon until his passing in 2016. Bartow was a Vietnam Veteran, a lifelong musician and songwriter, a widower, an enrolled member of the Mad River Band of Wiyot Indians, and is considered one of the most important leaders in contemporary Native American art. This December Froelick Gallery will end the year with an exhibition celebrating Rick Bartow's printing collaborations. Featured printmakers will include Mika Aono, from the University of Oregon, and master printer Seiichi Hiroshima of Moon and Dog Press. Bartow and Hiroshima collaborated from 1997 until Rick's passing in 2016. Bartow worked with Mika Aono in 2015 to create a series of etchings that have never been shown. This exhibition will also include Rick Bartow's unique work on paper.

"We have to reveal ourselves. In the way that we reveal ourselves, we let our life shine."
