Who is this man shooting at? What side is he on anyway? What just blew up in the background? Where's the photographer now? Is this even Libya or is it a National Guardsperson somewhere in Oregon practicing for the inevitable LNG explosion somewhere along the pipeline wending its way through Central Oregon all the way to 'Greed Zero', California

"The tape recorder ate my homework...Honest it did." Mohamed Mohamud goes on trial next April. Listeners will recall the astonishing coincidence in which just as public outrage at the TSA's obscenely intrusive new scanning techniques had come on-line during the holiday travel season, just as the fat happy families were filling Pioneer Court House Square for the annual Christmas tree lighting the Feds deployed their Christmas Patsy, a 17 year old Somali boy, a recent immigrant. Mohumud had been carefully coached by experts for months prior to his arrival in ‘Portland's Living Room’ with a harmless bomb supplied by his handlers.
Government prosecutors say they have turned over roughly 6,000 pages of evidence to the defense team for Mohamed Mohamud.
They have handed over emails, text messages, audio and video recordings, FBI reports and copies of the hard drives of three computers.
But what Mohamud's defense team really wants to have a look at is the tape recorder which was intended to secretly record a July 30, 2010, exchange in which Mohamud allegedly brought up the idea of taking part in a bombing. Defense lawyers have seized on that conversation as a key piece of evidence as they mount an illegal entrapment defense. They have raised questions about whether the FBI coaxed Mohamud into committing a crime he wouldn't have considered on his own. Prosecutors have said from the beginning that the FBI's recorder failed to pick up the conversation because the battery died before the meeting. And that's the third and most interesting coincidence. It is hard to belief that after months of precision grooming of the Fed's subject, after years of data collection and years of lessons this faulty recorder was the only recording devise on hand. And it is going to be even harder to believe whatever the Feds claim to be an accurate transcription of what would have been recorded. That is just asking too much.
On May 26, Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin signed into law H. 202, a bill that is intended to set the state on the road to a single-payer health care system. While the legislation puts off the creation of such a system for a number of years, this is an important initial victory for thousands of activists in the state who have been agitating for years for a truly universal system.James Haslam, director of the Vermont Workers’ Center and the Healthcare Is a Human Right Campaign, called the bill a victory for our movement, for all Vermonters and for the country as a whole…Our success shows that when people come together, make their voices heard and demand their rights, we can overcome well-funded special interests and change what’s politically possible. The bill establishes that “all Vermont residents shall be eligible for Green Mountain Care, a universal health care program that will provide health benefits through a single payment system.”
