In this semi-autobiographical collection of poems, Portland's own Renée Watson writes about her experience growing up as a young Black girl at the intersections of race, class, and gender.
Using a variety of poetic forms, from haiku to free verse, Watson shares recollections of her childhood in Portland. These odes to Black women of all ages are brilliantly illustrated by celebrated fine artist Ekua Holmes .
Black Girl You Are Atlas is Watson's first book of poetry. She discusses why she chose to write it now. She also previewed Skin & Bones, her first adult novel.
