The Songcircle is celebrating June's observance of African-American Music Appreciation Month (Black Music Month to its friends) with three consecutibe special episodes spotlighting the genius of Sly Stone and his amazing band The Family Stone.

 

In today's installment, we focus on the group's live performances during their peak period of 1968-70. We'll feature highlights from concerts at NYC's Fillmore East in October, 1968; a pair of tunes from the Summer of Soul soundtrack, dating from 1969 (the same summer they blew Woodstock away); and the powerful tail end of their set at the August, 1970 Isle of Wight Featival.

 

Tune in for many of the band's timeless hits, and some more obscure tines and covers you might've never heard before! No better way to celebrate!
