Please join us on Monday, December 16th at 6:30 pm for Prison Pipeline on KBOO Community Radio as we talk with Mary Nordkvelle and Jean Richardson who are sisters. Years ago they saw a program on the BBC about Americans on death row in the US. That began a long journey of writing and then visiting prisoners on Death Row. Since their initial correspondence they have become regular visitors to the US, visiting prisoners on Death Row at San Quentin in California, Riverbend in Tennessee, ChowChilla Women's Death Row in California and the Texas State Penitentiary in Huntsville where the most executions in the US take place.
Among their many friendships was one they developed was one with David Miller, a man who they visited for 24 years until he was executed in 2018 by the state of Tennessee. Richardson and Nordkvelle were his steadfast friends and supporters for 24 years while he was on Death Row, exchanging letters and annual visits.
Prison Pipeline is a radio program dedicated to educating the public about the Oregon criminal justice system. Our goal is to present a unique understanding of the criminal justice system, address the root causes of crime, and challenge the status quo. We seek to promote awareness and activism in order to foster a safe, healthy, and just society. Tune in every Monday at 6:30 P.M. to hear our hosts Karen James, Adam Carpinelli, Emma Lugo, and Doug McVay explore the Oregon justice system with a variety of guests.
