Criminalizing Misfortune
Host Karen James speaks with Kerry, Leon and Andrés who are currently receiving services at the Beaverton Shelter. They discuss the challenges that led them to homelessness, substance abuse and ultimately to find support to help them achieve their goals. They express their views on ways to support people who find themselves in similar situations, on Oregon’s new laws and the criminalization of addiction, homelessness, etc. Michael Austin, Development Director of Just Compassion, the organization that provides services and programs at the Beaverton Shelter, discusses the work of the organization.
