Greed Grapevine
Whistle Blow-Out: The Secrets of Hanford still lie undisturbed while the underground rivers of revenue continue to flow into Bechtel’s coffers...’Glass Sealing’, Indeed. Cleanup of the nation's biggest nuclear mess hinges in large part on trapping some of the most radioactive wastes in glass for up to 10,000 years. But workers and some experts at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation say insufficient tests threaten the $12 billion glassification project. That’s what they say. What we know is that insufficient tests are what Bechtel et al wanted. The contractors fired the first and foremost whistleblower, Walter Tamosaitis, setting off a slowly swelling tide of others from across the pay scale. In any case, insufficient tests do not threaten the $12 billion dollar project.. Greed does.
Elliot Update:
On Tuesday Morning, Friends of Oregon's Forest is holding a demonstration in Salem, outside the State Land Board meeting, where Governor Kitzhaber is expected to make important decisions about the future of Oregon's state owned forests such as The Elliott State Forest.
At 9:30 am, on Tuesday October the 11th, conservation activist from all over the state of Oregon will be demonstrating at the State land board meeting at 775 Summer ST Salem in downtown Salem. Inside the meeting, the state land board is expected to decide on a controversial new harvest plan for The Elliott State Forest. This new plan would increase clear-cutting in sensitive habitats, compromise fish bearing streams and watersheds, and continue to endanger the community surrounding the forest. We think that the Governor needs to reject this plan and demand a better one for the Elliott State Forest. We will have people speaking from Cascadia Wildlands, Forest Web, Cascadia Forest Defenders and other organizations working on State Forest issues. As well as music and other entertainment. To find information on busses and ride-shares from cities all over the state, go to www.wearefoof.wordpress.com. For more information on the Elliott State Forest go to www.cascwild.org.
Friends of Oregon's Forests is a coalition group made up of conservation groups from all over the State of Oregon, we seek better conservation for state owned forests, an end to clear-cutting of native and old growth ecosystems, and meaningful protections for salmon, and other threatened and endangered species that rely on these healthy ecosystems to thrive.- KBOO
