Rebecca Knuth, a professor at the University of Hawaii and an expert on censorship and cultural destruction, authored Libricide: The Regime-Sponsored Destruction of Books and Libraries in the 20th Century. After retiring in 2014, she moved to London and immersed herself in the city’s literary scene while transitioning into writing creative nonfiction. In 2024, she self- published Emily Dickinson Had to Have Curls: The Feminine Masks Forced on Women Writers, case studies on women writers. Her memoir, London Sojourn: Rewriting Life After Retirement (She Writes Press, 2026) recounts the experience of living in London, writing the Emily Dickinson book, and reinventing herself. She shared London Sojourn at a book launch at Annie Bloom's on Feb. 5th. A full-time writer, she lives in the South Waterfront area, Portland, Oregon, near her son and with her labradoodle.
