Health and Health Care Forum, Produced by Roberta Hall

This program is an edited version of a talk by Dr. Walt Dawson, Director of Analytics and Research at the Oregon Health Care Association. It was delivered at a recent forum at the OSU Public Health Department. The title is “Long Term Services and Supports on Health Care — Perspectives from Canada,” Dr. Dawson reports on his findings in a recent study of how Canada provides services to disabled and elderly people compared to how the U.S. handles the same services. The study featured interviews with key agency and both public and private Canadians, plus statistical data on who provides and who receives care in both countries. Walt Dawson was drawn to this field as a young man when he served as a care-giver for a member of his family. Today family members in both countries are the chief providers of long term health care.
