Rescuing Portland's Fossil Fuel Ban and Supporting Fossil Fuel Divestment for METRO

Locus Focus is off today.

Kathleen Stephenson speaks with Sandy Polishuk and Mia Reback of 350PDX about Portland’s Fossil Fuel Ban, which was passed in November. Now the City staff is offering a draft of proposed code changes that falls far short of ensuring the impact intended by the November resolution.

They also discuss the METRO Council taking up fossil fuel divestment for “hearing and action” at their regular meeting this Thursday, July 28 th. The meeting begins at 2:00 pm, and 350PDX will be holding a rally outside before the hearing. The resolution “Finds that holding the securities of fossil fuel companies in Metro’s portfolio is inconsistent with Metro’s sustainability goals” and “Directs the Chief Financial Officer to revise Metro’s investment policies to reflect the policy to invest in no securities of fossil fuel companies (as listed on the Carbon Underground 200™ List and as updated annually).” Metro’s headquarters is at 600 NE Grand Avenue
