Why have socialist revolutions not led to democracy?

“The emancipation of a the working classes,” said Marx, “must be conquered by the working classes themselves.” All his work was aimed at empowering the working class with the intellectual tools to do carry out that self-emancipation and self-rule. Marx never intended his work to be a blueprint to be imposed on the people from above by a vanguard party. So why have socialist revolutions not led to democracy? Clayton Morgareidge explores some of the reaasons and considers what the left might learn from them.
