STRATEGIES FOR RESISTANCE

On this week’s Old Mole Variety Hour we continue to explore strategies for resistance in the age of Trump.

  • First, we turn to history to understand how the far right has gained so much power and whether the past offers lessons for current and future struggles. Bill Resnick and Bill Smalldone conclude their three-part series on the rise of fascism in Germany by focusing on Nazi use of violence to defeat the Left, and whether the Left’s violent resistance helped or hurt their efforts.
  • Then we hear field Mole Denise Morris’s recording of Joe Lowndes, who spoke in April at the Portland Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America event on Trump and the working class. Lowndes discusses the development of right-wing populism over the last six decades, and how we might build broad new social movements of the working class.
  • Finally, the Old Mole’s Tom Becker shares a piece from Walden Bellow, a Foreign Policy in Focus columnist, who insists that it’s “Not Only Necessary to Develop an Alternative to Globalization — It’s Entirely Possible.” For the Left, this is a moment of both great challenges and opportunities.
