US AND MIDDLE EAST WARS, "THE CHILD FINDER", SEX OFFENDERS, NORTHWEST LABOR HISTORY
Laurie Mercier hosts this episode of the Old Mole and presents these pieces:
- Bill Resnick interviews Phyllis Bennis about U.S. entanglements with Saudi Arabia, Israel, Russia, and the proxy wars in the Middle East. Author of eleven books, including the recent Understanding ISIS & the New Global War on Terror, Bennis directs the New Internationalism Project at the Institute for Policy Studies, working as a writer, activist and analyst on Middle East and UN issues.
- Larry Bowlden reviews Rene Denfeld’s novel, The Child Finder. Denfold is famous for her nonfiction writing and her excellent debut novel, The Enchanted.
- Jan Haaken talks with Tim Buckley, one of the authors of The New Scarlet Letters: Sex Offenders, Their Treatment, and Our Challenge. They will discuss stereotypes and misconceptions of sex offenders, and how the punitive orientation of the criminal justice system affects people who fall under this widening label.
- Laurie Mercier speaks with Conor Casey, labor archivist at the University of Washington, about the April 7 Pacific Northwest Labor History conference in Seattle, and how the Labor Archives attempts to preserve and share the region’s laboring and activist past.
