This week on Prison Pipeline:

Rodney Patrick McNeal was a probation office, a father, a graduate student and a home owner. On March 9, 1997, he came home to find his wife dead. That day changed his life forever and he was wrongly convicted. He has been wrongly convicted for over 21 years.

He is a member of the California Innocence Project, he is part of the “California12” and his name has been on Governor’s Brown desk for clemency for 8 years. (see his story below)

In honor of all the men and women behind bars that are innocent Jennifer Kennedy started “Light the Way Home” 3 years ago. This online campaign brings awareness to the world that wrongful convictions happen and happen way too many times.

Co-host Emma Lugo will be speaking with Jennifer about the case of Rodney Patrick McNeal and all those who are wrongfully incarcerated.

The U.S., which leads the world in incarceration of its citizens, has approximately 2 million people behind bars. That means a wrongful conviction rate of 1 percent would translate to 20,000 people punished for crimes they didn't commit. On death row, 1 in 25 are likely innocent, according to a recent study.

On July 6, Jennifer asks that people all over this nation and world to turn on their porch lights and keep them on all night. (to light the way home for the wrongly convicted). She asks them to post on FB a photo of their lights. Within the past three years they have had people from 40 different states and seven countries participate.
