We've got cover crop alternatives, Jim's travel to China, and the largest fruit tasting event in North America?

Even if you haven't planted cover crops and don't plan to, there are many other ways to protect and improve your garden beds and soil. Combined, host Glen Andresen and guest Jim Gilbert Jim Gilbert have gone through more than 130 winters, the vast majority of them as gardeners, so they've got plenty of ideas to consider. Also, Jim recently returned from China and South Korea looking for still more information on persimmons (by the way, our Plant of the Month), and he'll report on what he learned. Plus, the latest news on the Home Orchard Society's All About Fruit Show coming up on October 20 and 21.

As always, we'll answer your gardening questions, have a new Plant of the Month, define our Dirtbag Dictionary words (grafting), quiz you with a new Garden Stumper, and, maybe this will become a new "feature," what's annoying us this month!

The Dirtbag... Listen. Laugh. Learn.
