In the midst of a pandemic when many are struggling to pay for rent, local developers are planning to demolish what has been called the Flanders Home, located at 2124 NW Flanders St, within the upcoming year.

In its place, they plan to build a 19 unit apartment complex with the majority of the rooms for at market rate. Currently, the Flanders building offers affordable housing to 14 renters and they are concerned they won't be able to find adequate housing if the building is demolished.

The tenants have joined together in the North Portland Tenants Collective. The Collective initially rose in response to a Kenton Neighborhood landlord demanding rent despite the pandemic. Now, the North Portland Tenants Collective is advocating to keep this affordable home in NW Portland from being demolished and forcing tenants to relocate.

KBOO's Claire Rischiotto has the story.
