A special hourlong conversation about the history of America's iconic Black Power movement, featuring writer David Walker and artist Marcus Kwame Anderson

Writer David F Walker is known for his work on such comics titles as Shaft, Luke Cage, and Power Man & Iron Fist.  In Portland, he covered the film scene for Willamette Week as well as his self-published blaxploitation zine BadAzzMoFo, and curated the Longbaugh Film Festival and Portland Black Film Festival.

Marcus Kwame Anderson is a painter and illustrator who has co-created titles such as Snow Daze and Cash & Carrie for Action Lab Comics.  Together, David and Marcus have collaborated on an illustrated history of the Black Panther Party, from its origins in the civil rights movement of the 1960's to its dissipation in the 1980's.

David and Marcus connected over Zoom with S.W. Conser to talk about the parallels between the Black Power and Black Lives Matter movements, the challenges for Black creators in pop culture, and the artistic balance between education and entertainment.
