Right-wing extremism is the main domestic threat, but the FBI is still spying on and infiltrating left-leaning racial and social justice movements

Today's guest, Trevor Aaronson, is the host of the "Alphabet Boys" podcast, which " reveals the secret investigations of the FBI, CIA, DEA, ATF, and other alphabet agencies."

Aaronson was on Democracy Now recently, talking about the first episode of the podcast, about the FBI informant who infiltrated the Denver Black Lives Matter protests in the wake of the George Floyd murder by police. Despite it's relatively recent reputation among some for going after right-wing Republicans and extremists, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has never given up its disproportionate tendency to spy on, infiltrate and disrupt (even to the point of framing and assassinating leaders) anti-racist, anti-capitalist, labor and other progressive and leftist organizers, activests, groups and movements.

Aaronson is also a contributing writer at The Intercept, and author of The Terror Factory: Inside the FBI's Manufactured War on Terrorism. He was a 2020 ASU Future Security Fellow at New America and a 2015 TED Fellow.

He is the creator and host of the documentary podcasts American ISIS, which tells the story of Russell Dennison, an American who joined the Islamic State as a fighter in Syria; and Chameleon: High Rollers, which investigates an FBI undercover operation in Las Vegas.
