On today's episode, we welcome Karen Russell, author of the new novel The Antidote from Knopf. The Antidote is Karen’s sixth book of fiction, following the story collections Orange World, St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves, and Vampires in the Lemon Grove, the novella Sleep Donation, and her debut novel Swamplandia!, one of the New York Times’ ten best books of 2011 and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. She’s the recipient of both a MacArthur Fellowship and a Guggenheim Fellowship, and received two National Magazine Awards for Fiction, the Shirley Jackson Award, the 2023 Bottari Lattes Grinzane prize, and the 2024 Mary McCarthy Award, among other honors. She also serves on the board of Street Books, a mobile-library for the houseless here in Portland. In addition to being a great writer, Karen’s one of the kindest and caring people I’ve ever met.
Karen will be launching the book at Powell’s City of Books, in conversation with Emily Chenoweth, on Tuesday, March 11th at 7pm. Then she’s on the road for stops on the West Coast, East Coast, and multiple cities in between.
