On this edition of KBOO News in Depth:
KBOO's Althea Billings speaks with Laura Grimes, Executive Director of Oregon ArtsWatch, about their coverage of the demise of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, or CPB. The board of directors of the corporation voted to dissolve, after the Trump administration stripped their funding in August. Prior to the recission of funds, KBOO regularly recieved community service grant funds from CPB, as did many other community radio stations.
Then, KBOO's David Rosenberg speaks with independent photojournalist David Bacon. Bacon has documented Somali life in the U.S., which has become fraught since Trump's first administration, when he referred to Somalia as a "s***hole" country, and tried to prevent Somalis from entering the U.S. Somali-Americans are the focus of his ire again in this administration.
