The World Meets Africa

Over the years there have been many fruitful musical collaborations between Africa and the rest of the world.  Sometimes as the result of expatriate African artists working in Europe or America.  Other times it's been westerners traveling to the continent to work with African artists.  We'll hear Indian vocalist Kiran Ahluwalia's recent work with Tinariwen (she will be here at the Alberta Rose Theatre April 24th)...  Also, American guitarists Henry Kaiser & David Lindly recording with Rossy of Madagascar...  Malian kora maestro Toumani Diabaté working with Taj Mahal, the Flamenco group Ketama, and avant-jazz trombonist Roswell Rudd...  American jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater recorded in Bamako with local luminaries...  Bluegrass/jazz banjo player Béla Fleck exploring his instrument's African roots...  British guitarist Justin Adams jamming with Gambia's Jeldeh Camara...  Trumpeter Don Cherry with Foday Musa Suso's Mandingo Griot Society...  Moroccan Gnawa artist Hassan Hakmoun performing with the Kronos Quartet, and much more.......   host: Andy Hosch
