Kicking off tomorrow, August 23rd at the Mission Theater is the POWFest Summer Documentary series, brought to you by the folks at Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (or POWFest) and NW Documentary. It’ll begin tomorrow at 7pm with this season’s Homegrown Doc Fest, a showcase of NW Documentary student work, and will continue throughout the week with best-of screenings of documentaries from past POWFests, themed shorts programs, family programming and more: for a complete schedule of those screenings check out POWFest's or Mission Theater's websites.
The fest plans to save the best for last though, with a special screening hosted by featured guest Ondi Timoner, the Sundance award-winning documentarian behind the cult-status rock doc DIG! and the acclaimed doc We Live in Public, a darker meditation on technology and media. She’ll be screening those two films back to back at the Mission on Friday August 30th starting 7pm, as well as showing clips of other films and hopefully discussing her current work on the web-channel A Total Disruption, which follows tech innovators, and the show BYOD, or Bring Your Own Documentary.
I was delighted to be joined by Ondi this week for The Film Show.
