The purpose of this show is to create a place on the radio dial in order to elevate women's voices and opinions around political, economical, and cultural issues. The intent is to look at global and local events/topics via interview, commentary or discussion in order to consider a variety of views that are often missed by media.

Debra Giannini
Debra is a teaching artist, health practitioner and advocate based in Portland, Oregon. Her focus upon somatic healing, community-building, and transformation is underpinned from by the tenets of bioregional adaptation and arcology (architecture + ecology)  and her tools are cultural: art, film, dance, spoke word and music. 


Dennise M. Kowalczyk
Dennise started her career in community broadcasting in 1995 when she moved to Portland from the east coast. She was a former volunteer with WXPN in Philadelphia.  Her work with KBOO runs the gamut of serving as a board member to on-air programming to serving as a staff member. She is the former manager of KZME Radio and executive director of WDIY Radio. She also is a podcast producer (BroadBand, ArtclecticPDX, and Trixie Pop). She currently resides in Rhode Island and volunteers with The Public's Radio.

Tave Fasce Drake
Tave is an engineer, educator, producer, and performer. As well as being a regular contributor to The Politics of Living, Tave also has a monthly web podcast - Peace, Love and Soup, available on iTunes, FB and at kboo.fm/peaceloveandsoup. She is the lead singer of the 8 piece all female Merle Haggard tribute, Gerle Haggard Band.  A double major of USC's film school and theatre department, Tave went on to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mali, West Africa where she met her husband.  She worked on documentaries in the Bay Area before becoming the A/V manager and head editor at D'Arcy Advertising. Just after 9/11, Tave went on to raise and train service and therapy dogs for over a decade.  The mother of two daughters and an interpreter at OMSI, Tave Fasce Drake is a huge proponent of feminism -particularly in regards to women in the arts and sciences.

Inessa Anderson
Inessa has been a vital part of the Portland radio community since the mid-1990s.  She was on air at KBBT, KKJZ, KUPL, Q105 and KGON,  She then spent 11 years at KINK, starting in 2001.  Most recently, she holds the position of Music Director and Creative Services for Portland Radio Project (prp.fm).   More information about Inessa can be found at the links below.

Kristin Thiel is a writer and editor.

Darka Dusty
Darka Dusty is a writer, entrepreneur, life-long musician, vocalist and vocal coach living in Portland, Oregon. As a singer, Darka is known for her big voice and likes to genre-hop from blues to jazz to country and everything in between. Originally born in Detroit, MI, Darka spent many years in New York City and a few in London, England while she worked for the Economist Newspaper Group and Jive Records. In her early musical life, Darka was one half of the very popular NYC-based Ukrainian music duo, “Darka & Slavko” producing very popular records and traveling to Europe several times, winning “Best International Band” honors at the first non-Soviet Ukrainian Pop Music Festival. Darka currently sings, plays piano and accordion as a soloist and in the Portland music scene, including two of her own bands. When she's not performing, Darka and her partner Miri create beautiful images through their collaborative photography venture, Mirifoto. She's also a contributing writer for several local magazines and writes love horoscopes for Daily Horoscope.com and Tarot.com

Vicky Mazzone
Vicky Mazzone is a music geek and radio aficianado who moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1992.  Vicky is also a guitar enthusiast, and hosts Guitar Shop Radio, a weekly show dedicated to cream-of-the-crop guitarists in all genres.  Vicky's involvement in radio spans news stories, music shows, radio training and theater.  She's been involved at KPSU, KBOO, KBVR and (as a guest) KMUZ.  She's been the digital media contact for The Politics of Living since it started, and now serves as its host and producer.  

ML lauri

ML lauri is a nurse and a psychotherapist who has been working in the field of mental health for 40 years. Her heart’s work/quest has been and continues to be to understand and relieve the suffering of herself and others. This work led her to travel looking for answers which resulted in her living and working in Nepal and India for about 8 years. She began studying and practicing Buddhism there and has been a practicing Buddhist for 30 years. She moved to Portland in 2007 to study at the Buddhist college, Maitripa College. Her current work through her private practice, EXPANSION, has involved publishing her first book “What the Hell Is Going On? The Question, Our Secrets, Some Answers” (WHIGO) in 2016 and starting work in new avenues as she continues to follow her heart’s and Buddhist path. ML is new to radio. She hopes her work at KBOO will be one of her new avenues for her continuing growth and work.   

Rachelle Schmid

Rachelle Schmid is a Portland music aficionado and radio geek. She was born in North Portland and graduated from Portland State University. Rachelle’s love of journalism, interviewing, and music brought her to KPSU in 2008 where she currently produces and hosts Live Fridays, a weekly show featuring live in-studio performances by musicians and her interviews of them. She also volunteers with several music festivals in Portland, has spoken at numerous music panels, and is a voting member of multiple music organizations.  Always happy to collaborate and be involved with the radio community, Rachelle has been a show guest on many radio stations including PRP, Freeform, X-Ray, and KBOO. Her voice was lent to a few radio dramas, underwriting spots for businesses, music videos, and a traveling radio show documentary on Portland. Outside of her active participation in radio and the Portland music scene, Rachelle enjoys knitting, sewing, embroidery, painting, and anything that involves working with a glue gun.
